Plague Journal, Tortugas’ Lie
Before noon we walked across the street to a restaurant called Tortugas’ Lie. Tortugas is Spanish for turtle. The Cayman Islands were originally called The Tortugas. A paragraph in the menu explains that Lie is the lair of an animal or of an anchorage at sea, such as would have been used by BLACKBEARD in the day when he plied these waters. The smallish restaurant showed evidence of being a very fine place to eat because on a prior evening we noted people seated on the porch, beverage in hand, waiting for a table to open up.
Tortugas’ Lie restaurant did not disappoint. The rum and coke that I ordered was as good as I have tasted. I would have crossed the street to savor that flavor alone. Our waiter, Carlos, took our order attentively, skillfully. It turned out that Carlos has been employed there for nine years. I resonated with the positive vibe that I felt from Carlos.
Usually I refrain from capturing a photo of food to avoid appearing rude. This key lime pie on a saucer appeared sublime to me. The slice of pie, a divine capture of the sweet-sour of lime was worth remembering by means of the photo. Tortugas’ Lie
