Don’t Think, Look

Once again I am reminded that paying attention, waking up is critical to living well.  Perhaps that is why we are here –if there is a why.  That seems as good an answer as any to me.  Especially since all of the answers to the “why” of human purpose are speculative.  Place your bet and lay down your money.  See what happens.  Then you will know, win or loose.

Several days ago I noticed the beauty within the confines of our back yard.  Our backyard is nothing special.  All backyards are one-of-a-kind and comparison is pointless.  I suppose that you can find beauty anywhere if you patently observe, observe with heart…….  Perhaps

Window from another place, another time

we are well advised to observe all of life with empathy, keen to find the truth beneath the lies.  To achieve that desired state of being I will definitely have to slow down.

Here are some photo’s that I captured in our small, typical backyard.

Not meant as a plug, but this is the wording on the back of my book, 36 Acres. Just seems apropos to your posting here ND EVEN though the focus is a nature preserve, not a backyard, THEY fundamentally the same – a small space:

Throughout the world small sections of undisturbed land are just down the street or around the corner, waiting to be discovered and cherished. The fundamental character of nature exists in all of these parcels. Although the author has spent six years exploring this particular
36 acre nature preserve, the book is a representation of what can be found in any neighboring woodland, prairie, meadow or forest. Each “36 acres” around the planet has its own individual beauty, offering whoever can take the time to explore the diversity and qualities of that land, a lifetime of discovery.

I agree. Contemplation, receptive appraisal of what was before us and surrounds us seems to be the foundation of health and sanity. Perhaps all children know and practice this.
