Energy Is Eternal Delight

Energy Is Eternal Delight

Fall is a divine time of year.  Fall is the season of harvest.  As well, the days grow shorter, a chill descends, sunlight falls oblique upon the earth and the maple leaves catch fire, and begin to fall.  They fall one by one, finished, the alchemy of chlorophyll having utilized sunlight to make sugar.  Carbon dioxide is absorbed from the air, then combined with water.  The glucose sustains the life of the tree.  I can read the description of what takes place inside a green leaf.  The leaf does not know how, – it just does it.  It is mystical, awe inspiring when you pause and think about it.  Maybe pausing to think is a form of prayer?

These photos were taken at intervals while working in the yard picking up fallen leaves, mulch that I can apply to the raised vegetable beds.

What about the shot of the pumpkin?  I selected the pumpkin for its size and shape to display adjacent to the path taken by children and families to the nearby park.  It was a matter of time, a day or so, and one of the squirrels discovered the orange vegetable.  The squirrel has a taste for pumpkin, as do I.

Who does not look forward to pumpkin pie in the weeks to come?

* Energy=life.  Energy is Eternal Delight is a line from a William Blake poem.
