Plague Journal, How Bad, Before Blood?

Plague Journal, How Bad, Before Blood?

A friend sent me this youtube video.  The visual is an excerpt of the confirmation hearing for Judge Amy Cony Barrett.  Watching and listening to the speech of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, my despair deepened.  How more craven, oblivious to the requirements of office, and of representative democracy can this possibly become?  The legislative/administrative violence is undisguised.

Ought we to anticipate a “night of the long knives”* come November 3rd?

A wildcat growls.  Anything is possible.

*acts of vengeance, violence, killings

This tune alone is apt for these conditions, this time in which we live.  The hour is getting late, indeed.

All Along the Watchtower

by Jimmy Hendrix

“There must be some way out of here”
Said the joker to the thief
“There’s too much confusion
I can’t get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line
Know what any of it is worth”

“No reason to get excited”
The thief, he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we’ve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late”

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Outside, in the distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
The wind began to howl

— lyrics by Bob Dylan

I watched this as well, start to finish, thanks to our mutual friend. Senator Whitehouse could not have made his point about the influence of dark money any clearer. The funders of The Federalist Society and the Freedom Foundation are anonymous and oversee every aspect of our government, funneling hundreds of millions of dollars towards influencing Supreme Court decisions through amicus briefs to vetting nominees for every federally appointed judgeship in the land. The only way to stop this usurpation of our democracy is to vote and remain involved in the process as we reverse the dictates of this administration. This is not fluff. It is an actual existential imperative that we do everything possible to combat this trend. Vote!!!!

The vote is the only means to marshal a counter to this legally protected means of buying a government. The individuals behind this dark money mean to transform this country into a 21st century plantation, with the majority in servitude. As I suggested I am concerned that the outcome of an election will not be enough to deter the course of this evil.

Good post. And a good song to accompany it. I would add another song written by Dylan that seems most apropos to our current predicament; “God On Our Side”
    Blessings
